We’re Back!    

We kicked off the year by asking what true self-directed learning looks like. At BLC, it means learning because it excites you, not simply because someone told you to. That spirit is already alive in our community.

Walking around the building, you will find teens exploring classes such as The Black Plague, Medieval Asia, Zine-making, and Shakespeare. A stop in the nest, and you’ll see a group of teens crouched around a puzzle or plopped on the couch crocheting or trying their best time in Rubik’s Cube. In the library, you may hear the sound of vinyl coming from the new record player and outside, feel the tremble of a bass from a car stereo as a teen shows off their music production skills. Volunteering - Women’s Animal Center

We spent this past Friday making portraits of animals in need of a loving home. We brought these artworks with us to our visit to Women’s Animal Shelter, where we had the pleasure of meeting the animals we painted. These portraits will be gifted to the generous people who adopt - a small thank you for making a big difference. If you are considering bringing a furry friend into your life, think about making Women’s Animal Shelter you first stop. Duchess, Sylvester Stallone, Sprite and Galileo are a few of the amazing animals waiting to be loved.

Teens! Spend Indigenous Peoples’ Day at BLC!

As tradition, BLC is spending Indigenous Peoples Day celebrating. We would like to welcome teens ages 12 to 18 years old to join us in our celebration on Monday, Oct 13. Events include:

- Presentation: Coming to Terms with the Past: European and American Cultures Confront Their Treatment of Indigenous Peoples in the Post-Colonial Era

- Special guest, Chief Bluejay from the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania

- Community Potluck

- Movie Showing
