In a recent interview, Rep. Buddy Carter said he was “very proud” to have voted for a Trump-backed Republican budget that could lead to deep cuts to Medicaid – which 2 million Georgians rely on for health care.

During the interview, Carter repeated his commitment to making $1.5 trillion in cuts to federal programs, including $880 billion in cuts by the committee that oversees Medicaid. Health policy experts agree that cuts to the health programs are inevitable under Republicans’ budget plan.

“Of all the things to be proud of, Buddy Carter voting for a budget plan that could jeopardize life-saving health care for over 160,000 of his constituents is a sickening choice,” said DPG spokesperson Alex Yerkey. “Buddy Carter rubber-stamping every bad idea Donald Trump has will only leave his constituents less healthy and less safe.”

The Republican budget, which Carter has been “proud” to advance through multiple votes, is projected to slash Medicaid by $2.04 billion for roughly 162,800 Georgians in his district who rely on Medicaid for life-saving health care and medicine.
