Calexico Police Department Celebrates the 20th Annual "Kids and Badges" Event with Unprecedented Success.

Calexico, December 21, 2023 – The Calexico Police Department is delighted to declare the successful conclusion of the 20th annual "Kids and Badges" event, a beloved tradition that has been spreading joy and holiday spirit to Calexico families for the past two decades. Among the distinguished guests at this event were Imperial County District Attorney George Marquez, Calexico City Mayor Raul Urena, Mayor Pro Tem Gloria Romo, and Councilman Javier Moreno. Also in attendance was Calexico City Manager Esperanza Colio.

Background:

For twenty years, our annual event has been a beacon of happiness for the Calexico community during the holiday season. Each year, over 30 children have had the unique opportunity to be paired up with law enforcement officers or firefighters, share a delightful breakfast, meet Santa, and experience the joy of shopping for Christmas gifts at a local store.

Special Celebration:

In honor of our 20th anniversary, we were excited to share the news that we have garnered substantial donations, enabling us to take 50 children to Walmart, with each child receiving a $150 gift card. This extraordinary support allowed us to amplify our impact and spread even more happiness among the children of Calexico.

Event Highlights:

Breakfast at Denny's
VIP escort through a designated route
Santa's grand arrival in a REACH helicopter at the Ashley Furniture Store parking lot
Photo opportunities with Santa inside the Ashley Furniture Store
Shopping at Walmart alongside first responders for Christmas gifts.

The Calexico Police Department expresses sincere appreciation to the external agencies that provided invaluable assistance during this event: Imperial County’s District Attorney’s Office, Narcotic Task Force, Probation, Calexico Fire Department, Management Training Corp., Code Enforcement, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, Calipatria State Prison, and the DEA. Our heartfelt thanks extend to all the donors and volunteers whose steadfast support and dedication played a pivotal role in making this event a resounding success. It is through the generosity and commitment of our community that we are able to perpetuate this tradition, creating enduring memories for the children of Calexico.
