Cameron Erwin, 27, of South Vienna, was the overall winner of Sunday’s DYE HARD 5K at the Clark County Fairgrounds in Springfield. Gregory Lange, 16, of Springfield, was second, and Michael Holbrook, 20, of Grove City, finished in third place. Brooke McClellan, 21, of Bellefontaine, finished first in the Women’s division, with Leila Konicki, 13, of Springfield, placing second.
The Dye Hard 5K is a race in which participants get showered with colored powder while running or walking the route. The overall top finishers received plaques, and medals were given to the winners of each age group. About 800 people participated this year in the event. Proceeds benefited the Developmental Disabilities Endowment Fund of the Springfield Foundation, a 501c3 organization. People with developmental disabilities participated in the Dye Hard 5K by walking, running, and throwing color at the participants.
“The purpose of the Dye Hard 5K is to raise awareness, friends, and funds,” said race coordinator Melissa Baker. “This event is for people of all abilities to enjoy while giving our community the opportunity to show they care about people who have a disability. Participants in the Dye Hard show their support for our most vulnerable citizens.”
