Seattle, WA - On August 11, 2025, Chair Shasti Conrad released the following statement regarding Trump’s announced deployment of the National Guard to usurp local police duties in Washington, D.C.:

“Donald Trump is stealing another page out of the authoritarian’s handbook with his illegal deployment of National Guard service members in Washington, D.C. This is yet another chilling assault on our basic constitutional protections and the rule of law. Rounding up unhoused people and jailing or forcibly removing them is a human rights violation and a gross perversion of justice when housing is more expensive today because of Trump’s economic policies. We must be strong in the face of this escalation and Washington Democrats urge every service member and member of our justice system to remember and stay true to their oaths to the U.S. Constitution. No one is above the law. Especially not wannabe kings like Donald Trump.”
