“Monarch Soul” Chicagoland Premiere

Our audiences adored Juan Pablo Contreras last season, and he is back with his newest work Alma Monarca (“Monarch Soul”), a piece celebrating family and traditions during the Day of the Dead holiday in Mexico, which coincides with the annual Monarch butterfly migration.

His inspiration: Every year, the holiday aligns with the arrival of Monarch butterflies, giving rise to the local indigenous legend that the souls of ones’ ancestors transform into Monarchs in their journey to the afterlife.

JPC will be on site at both Naperville and Chicago concerts for a special audience Meet & Greet. Don’t miss your chance to rub elbows with this 3x Latin Grammy nominee!

Help Save Our Native Pollinators!

We’ve partnered with excellent local organizations to help highlight how you can help Monarch butterflies and other pollinators by rebuilding habitats and collecting information for scientists.

Plus, we’re holding a DIY craft activity so guests can create their own Pollinator Pods and plant their own pollinator gardens!

Community in Action

DuPage Monarch Project is a group of local organizations working together to provide education about Monarchs and increase the amount of suitable Monarch habitat throughout DuPage County.

Budburst Program

The Chicago Botanic Garden’s Budburst brings researchers, educators, gardeners, and community members together for a community science project to uncover the stories of plants and animals affected by human impacts on the environment.

“Butterfly Lovers” Dress Exhibit:

California artist/designer Carley Brandau will join us at Auditorium Theatre to showcase her transformative performance dress and chat about her unique design process. A commissioned fabric artwork, this special dress was worn by violinist Melissa White at the Sinfonietta’s May 2022 season finale, featuring “The Butterfly Lover’s Concerto” as the central work.
