From: City Of AthensJOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for providing clerical and customer service support for department operations.
MAJOR DUTIES: Answers telephone and greets visitors; provides information and assistance; directs visitors and callers to appropriate personnel. Provides tours of the gym for potential members. Sells gym memberships and maintains member accounts. Makes facility reservations for sports fields, meeting rooms, pavilions, etc. Updates social media accounts with new information. Reads and responds to emails. Registers the public for memberships and programs; collects required fees; makes copies of required documentation. Maintains office supply inventory and reorders as needed. Establishes and maintains files and records. Responds to and resolves complaints and concerns. Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 18 year or older. High School Diploma, GED and/or equivalent work experience. Valid Alabama Driver’s license. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/ internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION: Knowledge of customer service principles and practices. Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs. Knowledge of modern office principles and practices. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in operating office equipment. Skill in organizing and maintaining files. Skill in dealing with the general public.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK: This position consists of related clerical and customer service duties. Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to provide clerical and customer service support to the department. Successful performance helps ensure the efficient and effective operation of the department.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed with the employee sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light objects. The work is typically performed in an office. Physical strength, ability, and mobility to perform all essential job functions with or without accommodation. Must be willing to work overtime, non-standard work hours, holidays, shifts, and weekends as necessary. Must be willing to be on-call.
