Have you heard the news? Coppell Parks and Recreation is now Coppell Community Experiences! We know what you’re thinking, “…but they maintain our parks….and they provide recreation.” You’re right, they do. BUT they do so much more!

In addition to traditional parks and rec offerings, did you know the department also oversees the operations of the cemetery, the Coppell Arts Center, and the Cozby Library and Community Commons? The name Coppell Community Experiences better encompasses all that the team does and the ways they’re present in the Coppell community.

Deputy City Manager Vicki Chiavetta Announces Retirement

Vicki Chiavetta, Deputy City Manager for the City of Coppell, has announced her retirement effective January 27, 2023. She has served the Coppell community for 14 years.

Chiavetta started as the Assistant Director of Library Services in Coppell then became Director of Library Services in 2010. During her time as Director, Chiavetta oversaw the library’s expansion, from the initial planning and conceptual phases through construction to the grand reopening in 2016. She guided the staff and community through a busy first year in the new building with expanded programming and the latest technology.

In 2018, she was selected as Deputy City Manager and got to work spearheading the Allies in Community® initiative as well as an internal working group developed to foster a more inclusive and welcoming organization and community.

The public is invited to attend a retirement reception in honor of Chiavetta from 3 – 5 pm on Thursday, January 26, in the Town Center Atrium, 255 Parkway Blvd. If you plan to attend, please RSVP.

City Council Candidate Filing Now Open

Are you interested in running for City Council? Candidate filing for the May 6, 2023 election is open now through Friday, February 17! The City of Coppell will also host a City Council Candidate Orientation at 6 pm, January 26, in the Council Chambers at Coppell Town Center. This orientation is NOT required to file, but is encouraged. Please email [email protected] to RSVP.

Regional Neighborhood Summit

Connect with your neighbors, meet city officials, and learn how to strengthen your community at the Regional Neighborhood Summit on Saturday, February 18.

Hosted by the City of Coppell, the Town of Flower Mound, and the City of Lewisville, the event will feature a variety of information sessions presented by local leaders and industry professionals. Topics include neighborhood conflict resolution, how to spot contractor fraud, block party planning 101, and a neighborhood leadership panel discussion. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet city officials and learn more about what’s happening in their respective communities.

Texas Homeowner Assistance Funding Available

The pandemic has made the last couple of years tough financially for many. However, if you’re a homeowner in Texas and you’ve fallen behind on mortgage, property tax, or utility payments, you may qualify for funding through the Texas Homeowner Assistance program.

To qualify, homeowners must have experienced a hardship, such as income loss, after January 21, 2020, and have a household income at or below 100% of the Area Median Income (AMI) or the median income for the US, whichever is greater. The AMI for Dallas and Denton Counties for Fiscal Year 2022 is $90,000 for a household of three people or fewer. The current median income for the US is also $90,000.

Homeowners must also have a total past due balance that is less than or equal to $65,000. Of that $65,000, the full amount can be used for mortgage payments and up to $25,000 can be used for past due property taxes, insurance, or homeowner/condo association fees. Up to $10,000 can be used for utility payments.

S. Belt Line Reconstruction Update

The concrete keeps coming on S. Belt Line! S. Belt Line Reconstruction continues with utility improvements, roadway excavation, and subgrade prep this week.
