CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Monday, January 15, marks the 61st anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s iconic “I Have a Dream” speech. The day became a federal holiday in 1983. In 2020, the City Council voted to make MLK Day a municipal holiday.

In Corpus Christi, the 38th Annual MLK Commemorative March will take place on Monday, beginning at 12:00 p.m. at the Nueces County Courthouse, located at 901 Leopard Street, and ending at Mount Zion Baptist Church, located at 1605 Comanche Street. 

The City of Corpus Christi invites the community to visit its Martin Luther King, Jr. Day webpage at www.cctexas.com/MLK. It contains a schedule of events leading up to Monday’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative March.

Saturday, January 13, 2024

  • MLK Prayer Breakfast – Business Fellowship, 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1605 Comanche Street. 
  • 54th Annual NAACP MLK Gala, 6:30 p.m. at Congressman Solomon P. Ortiz International Center, 402 Harbor Drive.

Sunday, January 14, 2024

  • Inter-Faith Worship Service, 6:00 p.m. at Brooks Worship Center, 2101 North Port Avenue.

Monday, January 15, 2024

  • YWCA Corpus Christi Racial Justice Forum – It Starts with Me: Shifting the Cultural Climate, 10:00 a.m. at Nueces County Courthouse – Central Jury Room, 901 Leopard Street. 
  • 38th Annual MLK Commemorative March, 12:00 p.m. The March will begin at Nueces County Courthouse, 901 Leopard Street, and proceed to the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1605 Comanche Street.

The Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority (CCRTA) will provide shuttle services from Mount Zion Baptist Church to the County Courthouse after the march.
