Gaithersburg, MD (February 17, 2023) Gaithersburg’s Arts on the Green presents Folk Reimagined: Appalachian Dreams, featuring Tanya Anisimova, on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at the Arts Barn, 311 Kent Square Road. Concert begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $35, $20 for youth ages 18 and under, and $20 livestream. The concert is sponsored by Hampton Inn & Suites. Purchase tickets here.

Acclaimed cellist Tanya Anisimova shares a deeply powerful program that features the intricate rhythms and unusual timbral textures from music of the Appalachian Mountains, Ukraine and Hungary. Tanya takes the audience on a musical journey to unforgettable places, interweaving folk tunes from the area.

Tanya and her husband, artist Alexander Anufriev, lived in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Central Virginia for 12 years. Influenced by the incredible power of the Blue Ridge, Tanya was inspired to compose new works, including her Trio-Toccata “Appalachi” that was premiered on a peak of the Blue Ridge Mountains as a part of the Wintergeen Summer Music Festival.

The Washington Post has described Tanya as a “thoughtful and powerful” artist, providing “exceptional music-making” and possessing “spiritual authority,” as well as a composer of “deeply emotional” and “subtly mystical” music.

Featured performers joining Tanya include Peter Omelchenko (mandolin/dombra) and Allen Yoo (cello).
