General Statement of Duties
Performs responsible administrative and technical work supervising and performing inspections of new and existing construction as well as investigating complaints and securing compliance of Building, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Gas codes and ordinances; Under general direction, supervises and coordinates code inspection activities and operation of the Building and Safety Division; coordinates assigned activities with other inspectors, outside departments and the general public; assumes responsibilities of the Building Official in the absence of same; and provides highly responsible and complex staff assistance to all inspectors.
1. Under general supervision coordinates organizational and operational activities for commercial, residential and industrial inspections.
2. Participates in the recommendation, development and implementation of goals, objectives, priorities, policies and procedures;
3. Identify improvement opportunities and resource needs; and implements improvements for Building Safety Division;
4. Implements the Division’s work plan for all building inspection services and activities;
assign work activities and projects; monitor work flow; review and evaluate work products,
methods and procedures; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems.
5. Review construction plans, drawings and specifications to ascertain compliance with all codes.
6. Conduct field inspections of all trades and assist others with complex situations.
7. Helps to ensure consistent and appropriate interpretation of all building codes and City ordinances.
8. Meets with architects, engineers, contractors and property owners regarding pre-construction
requirements in absence of Building Official.
9. Assists inspectors.
10. Coordinate Building Safety Division activities with those of other divisions, departments and outside
agencies and organizations when Building Official is not available.
11. Attend and participate in professional group meetings in the absence of the Building Official.
12. Stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of Building Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Gas Codes.
13. Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and 10 years or greater in code interpretation and inspection of Building, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Gas Codes or any equivalent combination of education and experience; must possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

DRUG TESTING All applicants are subject to pre-employment drug testing; individual in this position will be subject to random drug & alcohol testing.
