From: City of IrvineIRVINE, Calif. (March 10, 2023): On March 7, Mayor Farrah N. Khan delivered her State of the City Address at the Irvine Barclay Theatre. Topics included a review of 2022 accomplishments, as well as the vision for 2023 and beyond as one of the top ten fastest growing cities in the nation.
In her address, Mayor Khan reiterated her commitment to progress, generational success, and growth. In 2022, Irvine hosted both President Joe Biden and former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa – now Governor Newsom’s Senior Infrastructure Advisor – to discuss infrastructure and funding opportunities necessary to maintain Irvine’s exceptional quality of life. She spoke to Irvine’s growth and the successes achieved throughout the City’s 51 years of incorporation, while highlighting the City’s recent entrance into the Big City Mayors Coalition and ensuring a voice in local issue leadership. She praised the City’s conservative approach to budgeting and resource management, and community investment through programs like the Irvine Recovery Plan. She also addressed Irvine’s growth while continuing to provide the most affordable housing units in the County. Through partnerships with community organizations, investments in the community and subsequent new initiatives – including a health and wellness component – she reaffirmed the City’s commitment to provide services and programs to meet the needs of the diverse community.
"The City of Irvine’s has come a long way in a short period of time,” said Mayor Farrah N. Khan. “As the City embarks on its 52nd year as the now 2nd largest city in Orange County and 13th largest city in California, we will continue to build a bright future for Irvine and its residents. I want to thank the Irvine Barclay Theatre for hosting us tonight to share this vision.”
This year's event, hosted for the second time at the Irvine Barclay Theatre, included performances by community organizations including, Irvine Girl Scout Troops 3369 and 5415, Gospel Voices Youth Choir, L.A. Daf Ensemble, Orchard Hills Robotics Team, and Chinese Dance Company of Southern California.
