IRVINE, Calif. (February 24, 2023): Orange County United Way and the City of Irvine have partnered with Procurri and Ingram Micro to host an e-waste drop off recycling event on March 11, 2023, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Irvine Valley College located at 5500 Irvine Center Drive.

Proceeds from the recycled items will support Orange County United Way’s work to ensure local underserved students have the support they need to succeed; that struggling Orange County families gain financial security; and our Orange County homeless neighbors find a place to call home.

The growing consumer inclination towards purchasing technologically and advanced electronic products, coupled with the constant consumer demand for the latest version of e-devices have led to shorter lifespan of electronic devices as compared to a decade ago.  This has led to the rise in the amount of e-waste generated, each day.  This event offers an opportunity for all of us to recycle that e-waste in a way that is both environmentally conscious and good for our community!

“While many individuals and companies do some level of e-waste recycling, we are presenting a unique opportunity for residents and businesses to give back while doing so. The dropped-off technology is being reused and recycled in a way that is good for our community and the planet,” said Susan B. Parks, President and CEO of Orange County United Way. “Technology is crucial for future success and proceeds from this event will ensure that Orange County residents can excel in work and school and participate in and contribute to a thriving local community.”

All event partners are committed to ensuring quality and safe handling of dropped-off technology. Procurri has a documented and trusted e-waste recycling process and is committed to data security.  They ensure that all policies and processes enable strict compliance with data regulations.

“Partnering with Orange County United Way to bring more recycling opportunities to Irvine is a great segue to Earth Month 2023,” said Mayor Farrah N. Khan. “I’m excited about this opportunity and the many City sustainability events planned for April.”

Accepted items at the event include: computers, peripherals, tablets, smartphones, smartwatches, telephones, LCD monitors, printers, scanners, projectors, hard drives, stereo equipment, shredders, radios, LCD/flatscreen TVs.

All unaccepted items can be brought to the County of Orange Household Waste Collection Centers.

For businesses that may have a bulk number of items, pick-up from their office in advance of the event is available. To see if your location/quantity qualifies for pickup, please email [email protected].
