Traffic Alert: Keller-Haslet Railroad Crossing

A contractor working on behalf of Union Pacific has informed us that they will have the Keller-Haslet Road crossing closed on Monday, Jan. 30, for repair work.

They expect this to be a one-day closure, with work starting around 7 a.m. and wrapping up by 4 p.m. Area commuters should anticipate congestion and plan ahead to use alternate routes.

Fishing for Fun takes over Bear Creek Park this Saturday

Come one, come all to this weekend’s fintastic Fishing for Fun event! Our first Fishing for Fun event of the new year is set for 9-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Bear Creek Park Pond, 400 Bear Creek Park Road.

Aimed at inspiring a love for fishing in children, this event, in partnership with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, is free for anglers 16 and younger. The pond will be stocked with rainbow trout, and we’ll be giving away prizes in a number of competitions. Attendees should bring their own supplies, and participating children should have an adult buddy. (Please note that children 16 and younger do not require a fishing license; if accompanying adults plan to fish personally, they will need a valid fishing license from TPWD.)

Saturday event celebrates newly renovated indoor pool

Grab your swimsuits! The Keller Pointe (405 Rufe Snow Dr.) will be making a splash this weekend as we celebrate the grand reopening of the indoor pool. Join us from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 28, for a pool party featuring games, prizes, massages, and other goodies.

Mayor Armin Mizani and some special guests will be on-hand for the ribbon-cutting, including Maximus Williamson, the Keller High School sophomore who just broke the 15-16 NAG 400-Meter Individual Medley record previously held by Olympian Michael Phelps.

Atmos line repairs impact area roads

Eastbound drivers on Keller Parkway encountered a lane closure today as they approached the Pearson Lane intersection. One of Atmos Energy’s contractors closed the outside lane of eastbound traffic at 7 a.m. to provide safety to crews as they excavate and repair a gas leak near 1952 Keller Pkwy.

Work is expected to wrap up by 5 p.m., with the road reopening overnight, but the contractor has warned they may need to run the same closure for up to a week to complete repairs.

Similarly, Pate Orr Road South will see a road closure on Friday, Jan. 27, as crews repair a large gas meter and barrier that were damaged in a car accident earlier this week. The closure will run south from Keller Parkway to just north of Silver Lake Drive, with work expected to last from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Library event brings music-lover together on Monday

Does your vinyl collection need a refresh? Bring all the records you don't play anymore to trade with other vinyl enthusiasts for something new at the Keller Public Library's Vinyl Record Swap event, getting started at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30, on-site at 640 Johnson Road.

The Friends of the Keller Library will also have used albums available for purchase or swap. This free event is for patrons 16 and older.

Coming Soon: Little Lilly Sushi Too

Yes yes YES, folks. The rumors are true (and a sign is even up!) in Keller Town Center for a new neighborhood sushi spot on its way.

Little Lilly Sushi of Fort Worth will be opening its second location in the old Chapps location at 1004 Keller Parkway, Ste. 106, the building book-ended by Summer Moon Coffee. This popular eatery has been serving up award-winning Japanese bites on Camp Bowie for more than a decade now — everything from sushi and sashimi to stir-fries, bento lunches and matcha green tea ice cream — and we’re looking forward to welcoming the Liu family to Keller.

Some renovation work has started, and we do not expect them to open their doors until late summer. In the meantime, please keep in mind that the phone number on their sign is for job inquiries only. We’ll keep you updated with their opening information once they’re ready.

Keep your pets warm in winter conditions

This week's near-freezing temps can make being outside miserable for some pets. A general rule of thumb is that if it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for them (though every breed is different; we’re looking at you, husky owners!). Think about that when you let your pets outside; keep an eye on them and keep them active to stay warm.

Signs that your pup is suffering in the cold include:

- Shivering
- Whining or anxious
- Tail tucked between its legs
- Reluctance to move
- Lifting paws
- Snow/ice buildup in paw pads or coat

Also, avoid slippery patches of ice; pet falls can be just as harmful as human ones. And consider using pet-safe ice melt products for your windshields, driveways and sidewalks; you don’t want your dog sick from digesting dangerous chemicals.

Coming Soon: The DRIPBaR Keller

We are a few weeks away from another cutting-edge health and wellness concept opening its doors in Keller. Join us in welcoming The DRIPBaR at 1632 Keller Pkwy., Ste. 500.

The DRIPBaR offers an assortment of in-house mixed intravenous compounds that can increase energy, improve recovery, boost your immune system, and even turn back the hands of time, improving clients’ health on the cellular level.

They pride themselves on having an experienced staff of registered nurses who provide a warm and comfortable office where clients can relax and enjoy their therapy. Plus, they offer mobile therapy services, oral supplements, and host group drip parties.

The DRIPBaR is scheduled to open its doors in mid-March. So, if you’re still looking for an out-of-the-box Valentine’s Day gift, look no further.

Awareness month asks residents to safety-check their bathrooms

Between slips, trips, falls, and drownings, the bathroom can be the most dangerous room in the house. In honor of National Bath Safety Month, here are our top tips to minimize risks.

- Remove anything you can slip on or trip over, and use non-slip mats in and around your shower and bath.
- Store hairdryers, electric razors, and other appliances away from water sources to avoid a lethal combination.
- Test the water’s temperature before getting in. Hot water can dry out and irritate your skin — or burn it — and too-cold water can impact blood flow, which is particularly dangerous for people with heart issues.
- Supervise those at risk of falling or drowning because it doesn’t take much time or water to slip or drown. (And while we’re talking drowning: Keep toilet lids shut when small children are around; they can fall in.)
- Be sure medications are stored in a locked cabinet or high shelf out of reach of children and use child-resistant caps to help ensure meds don’t fall into the wrong hands.

Let’s keep Keller safe for shower and bath lovers alike! Share the tips and take some time today to do a quick safety check of your bathroom.
