KILLEEN EMERGENCY PERSONNEL RESPOND TO APARTMENT BUILDING WALL COLLAPSE
No injuries reported, building determined uninhabitable

The Killeen Fire Department responded to a report of a wall collapse at 512 W. Green Avenue on Thursday evening.

Upon arrival, Fire Department crews found an exterior brick façade wall on the rear of a two-story, ten-unit apartment building that had separated from the main structure and collapsed. Fire Department personnel secured the collapse and surrounding areas, and assessed the main structure for danger, due to imminent collapse.  

City building officials were notified and responded to the scene to further assess damage and determine if the structure was safe for residents. Crews determined the building to be unsafe and uninhabitable. Upon that determination, a representative from city’s Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management office began working with property management and the building owner to provide emergency shelter for the displaced occupants.

City building officials returned to the site today to further inspect the building.  It was determined that the owner will need to consult a structural engineer to deem the building safe to occupy. 

The city’s Director of Homeland Security & Emergency Management worked with the property manager, property owner, citizens, and community partners to assist the displaced residents with meals and extending the stay at their current emergency shelter.  The building owner and property management have now taken over communications with the residents to begin work on long-term housing plans.

No one was injured from the collapsing brick wall.
