Track and Field Star Visits Narbonne High School
Athletes from Narbonne High School were treated to a special assembly recently with guest speaker Alya Alghamdi, professional track and field athlete and founder of "AFA by Lady A" Foundation which supports people of all backgrounds who are breaking barriers through their passion for sports, whether it be due to societal and cultural stigmas, physical incapacities, and or social-economic disadvantages. She spoke about her Saudi Arabian background, a place where females are banned from playing sports, and she encouraged the youth to push the limit of what they believe is possible in their education and in their sports and that life is not defined by the circumstances into which you are born.
Students in attendance received t-shirts, Skechers running shoes, and basketballs. The Lomita City Council helped coordinate the event and assisted in the giveaway.
