From: City Of LomitaAthens Services to Provide Street Sweeping Services in Lomita Starting April 1st.
In 2021, Athens Services began providing solid waste hauling services in Lomita. Since then, the City has been working with Athens to add State required Organics recycling collection services throughout the community and will be adding those services in the coming months. The City also recently solicited proposals for Street Sweeping services, and at its meeting on February 21st, the City Council awarded an agreement to Athens Services to take over street sweeping. Athens will begin providing these services starting the week of April 3rd.
While the City Council has considered alternative routes for street sweeping and gathered input on the draft routes from our residents, the provision of sweeping and solid waste services by the same service provider presents opportunities to align the routes and schedules for these two important services to minimize conflicts and better meet the needs of our residents. City staff are currently working with Athens to provide the draft routes considered by the City Council and the input received from our residents and will be making recommendations to the City Council in the coming months for possible amendments.
Beginning the week of April 3rd, residents will see new Athens street sweeping trucks and drivers, but the sweeping and trash collection dates, times, and routes will remain unchanged in the interim. Please continue to observe the posted two hour parking restriction for street sweeping to allow Athens street sweepers to help keep our streets clean and free of debris.
We appreciate your cooperation as we continue to work behind the scenes to provide effective and efficient street sweeping and trash collection in our community. To keep up to date on potential adjustments, or provide comments or questions, please feel free to reach out to us directly at (310) 325-7110.
