City of Mankato News: Participate in Mankato’s Annual Clean-up

Government and Politics

March 6, 2023

From: City of Mankato

Mankato-Mankato’s Annual Clean-up will be held in May at the Public Works Center, 501 S. Victory Dr., with scheduled drop-off dates and times for eligible residents.

During Annual Clean-up, Mankato residents actively billed for garbage service on their City of Mankato utility bill may dispose of unwanted items at no additional cost. Information about Annual Clean-up will be mailed to eligible households in late March and early April.

Scheduled Dates and Times

To help with traffic, scheduled drop-off dates and times have been assigned based on residents’ City utility bill due date. Residents are asked to drop off during scheduled times; dropping off on an unscheduled day may result in having to return on a scheduled day.

Postcard or Identification

Residents will need to bring the color-coded postcard received in the mail when dropping off items to verify the correct drop-off day. If the postcard is forgotten, another proof of residency form, such as a driver’s license or utility bill, is required.

No Mattress or Large Appliance Collection

Although mattresses will not be accepted at Annual Clean-up, residents may bring them to the Ponderosa Landfill at 20028 Gooseberry Lane, Mankato, and any fees paid to them.

For appliance recycling options, contact Green Tech at 507-344-1315.

Secure Drug Drop Box and Paper Shredding Services

A secure drug drop box will be available at the Annual Clean-up site for a safe and anonymous place to dispose of unwanted prescription and non-prescription medications. Correctly disposing medications is important because it keeps them out of the community’s water cycle when flushed down a toilet or placed down a drain.

A paper shredding service will also be offered to residents and will be available on residents’ scheduled Saturday drop-off date only.

Items not accepted as part of Annual Clean-up are concrete, asphalt, tires, large appliances (refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers), recyclable material and hazardous waste.

For more information, or if residents are unable to participate in scheduled drop off dates, contact staff at 311 or 507-387-8600.
