From: City of MesquiteTalia housing development breaks ground
Mayor Daniel Alemán, Jr. and the Mesquite City Council helped break ground on the new Talia development on Feb. 23. Nehemiah Group is bringing 2,500 homes to our region in Trinity Pointe with the new master-planned development. Talia’s families will send their children to school in the Forney Independent School District. Talia will offer park-like surroundings for the whole area to enjoy.
Mesquite Fire Department presents meritorious awards
Each year, the Mesquite Fire Department honors its employees through a presentation of awards for superior public service to the Mesquite community. Top awards were presented to Battalion Chief Jeff Miller as Officer of the Year, Firefighter/Paramedic Lane Powell as Firefighter of the Year, and Firefighter/Paramedic Anthony Shrum as Paramedic of the Year. Mesquite Library System receives Library Excellence Award
The Mesquite Public Library has received the 2022 Achievement of Library Excellence Award from the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association (TMLDA), an affiliate of the Texas Municipal League. Of the 542 public libraries in Texas, only 73 received this award in 2022. That places our library system in the top 15% of libraries in the state. This is the 7th year in a row we have achieved this honor.
Entries sought for Annual Rodeo Parade
The Parks and Recreation Department will present the 65th annual Rodeo Parade at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 1. The parade entry fee is $40, and the registration deadline is Thursday, March 30. For a map of the parade route or online registration, visit www.cityofmesquite.com/RodeoParade.

Spring Break Camp
Send your kids to Spring Break Camp for a day or week of fun at Dunford Recreation Center, 1015 Green Canyon, or Camp Rorie Galloway, 3100 Lawson Road. Camps are for kindergarten through sixth grade students and operate Monday, March 13 through Friday, March 17 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Dunford daily fee is $20 per resident/$30 per non-resident, Camp Rorie Galloway daily fee is $25 per resident/$35 per non-resident.
