I don’t know what I would do without my iPhone. It has my life stored inside of it. I can’t even go from one room to the other without it. I took a little time and searched Newspapers.com this morning. I found an article in the January 05, 1900 Houston Post with the heading “Telephone Exchange at Richmond.” The article read “Richmond, Texas, January 4. -The Southwestern Telephone company has just completed the work of putting in their local phones. Thirty-five local phones have been placed in town. Richmond can now boast of the best equipped long distance and local exchanges of its size in the State. The company has moved from the front room occupied in the bank building, to the rear of the building, where it now occupies two rooms.”

I think about some of the old television shows and movies that I’ve seen. Usually, there was only one telephone, and it was at a local store. Practically the whole town would be gathered around the person talking on the telephone, oohing and aahing in amazement. Just think about everything new that your grandparents witnessed throughout their lives.

Enjoy this unseasonably warm January we are having. It looks like we will remain warm with next Tuesday’s high expected to be around 85 degrees. Until then, I am enjoying having the windows open in my house.

Richmond, enjoy this Friday the 13th. I’ll save talking about the superstitions until another week!!
