Proposed management change, improvements for Rolling Hills headed to City Council
The Tempe City Council will consider a proposed public-private partnership for operations and maintenance at the city’s Rolling Hills Golf Course during a public hearing at its Feb. 16 Regular Council Meeting. A second public hearing and Council vote is scheduled for March 2.

The proposal would allow the applicant, Grass Clippings, to assume all operations, maintenance and capital improvements for the Rolling Hills Golf Course, pro shop and clubhouse starting July 1. It also outlines future improvements to the property, including: lighting the course and practice range; adding a family activity lawn and large video display; constructing a hilltop bar; and improving the practice range, clubhouse, pro shop and patio bar. The existing course footprint and layout will remain, with minor modifications on hole nine to accommodate the new family activity lawn.

You asked for better roads and sidewalks. The city invested over $76 million dollars over the next several years to road improvements.

Make your voice heard, let us know what matters most to you. Attend a public forum this Wednesday, Feb. 15 at noon or 6 p.m. Then take the survey: spend a theoretical $100 on Tempe programs and services through March 6. Details at tempe.gov/BudgetPlan.

I-HELP celebrates 17 years; invites new partners
The Interfaith Homeless Emergency Lodging Program (I-HELP) is celebrating 17 years serving unsheltered individuals in Tempe and is seeking new partners to bolster its work. Operated by Tempe Community Action Agency (TCAA), I-HELP relies on local faith organizations and community volunteers who come together every night of the year to provide access to sleeping space, evening meals, shower and laundry services and other important support. The program serves up to 40 men and women each night. I-HELP works in partnership with the City of Tempe to serve unsheltered individuals and connect them to resources that can help end their homelessness. Learn how to get involved – and celebrate the program’s 17th birthday – at an open house Tuesday, Feb. 21, from 4-5 p.m. at Grace Community Church, 1200 E. Southern Ave.

Got signs?

The Tempe History Museum is planning an exhibit of iconic Tempe signage that will open to the public later this year. There are already some great signs in the collection, but the city is looking for more. If you have a cool Tempe sign that you would like to loan, email [email protected].

Investing in your streets: a year of road improvements

In 2022, Tempe completed 29 pavement improvement projects citywide, resulting in the resurfacing of more than 130 lane miles, which is over 10% of Tempe’s roadway network.

The accelerated progress is due to the Tempe City Council prioritizing Tempe’s pavement quality goal, resulting in a significant increase in budgetary funding. The long-term goal is to reach a PQI score of 70 by 2028, the city is currently at a PQI score of 60.

Many more projects are planned for 2023, find a complete list, and more information about Tempe’s PQI program, at tempe.gov/RefreshTempe.
