From: City Of TucsonCITY OF TUCSON AWARDED CITY THREAD ACCELERATED MOBILITY PLAYBOOK GRANT
FUNDING, COACHING TO FAST-FORWARD MOBILITY NETWORK BUILD-OUT
City Thread has selected the City of Tucson among a diverse cohort of municipalities to participate in the Accelerated Mobility Playbook (AMP) technical assistance program. The program provides cities with $50,000 in technical assistance to fast-forward the build-out of mobility networks.
Funding from this grant will allow for a community-specific mobility audit of the city’s current state of practice and an action plan for improved implementation and partnership.
Over the next six months, the City of Tucson and Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM) will work with City Thread national mobility experts to assess our local mobility goals and develop a comprehensive model for delivering safe and connected streets throughout Tucson.
The City of Tucson will seek strategies to build connected mobility networks of bike lanes and sidewalks, and to increase transportation options for all road users that fight against congestion and pollution. Additionally, Move Tucson, the city’s long-range transportation master plan, will guide the AMP for modernizing the transportation network using the complete streets approach, improving safety for all users and increase viable transportation choices and alternatives.
"Our long-term goal is to eliminate transportation inequities in Tucson and do the work of building leadership capacity with neighbors,” said Ward 1 Council Member Lane Santa Cruz. “When the Move Tucson plan was completed, we saw that participation was low in Ward 1 and Ward 5. In response, the Mayor & Council decided to make the plan a living document that we could continue evaluating and adding to it. The AMP will be a great resource in contributing to the plan and creating better bicycle connections in the southside and westside.”
City Thread is a national, non-profit organization working to connect people and communities. Building on the success of The Final Mile, which helped five cities build 335 miles of bike lanes in just two years, City Thread’s Accelerated Mobility Playbook (AMP) provides a roadmap for expediting project delivery, completing network-focused implementation plans, and conducting authentic community engagement.
Communities chosen include Bainbridge Island, WA; Syracuse, NY; Gulfport, MS; Cleveland, OH; Milwaukee, WI; Tucson, AZ; Santa Rosa, CA; Petaluma, CA; and Indianapolis, IN.
The Accelerated Mobility Playbook (AMP) is funded by Wend Collective and SRAM. To see a program FAQ, visit www.citythread.org/faq. For more information, visit www.citythread.org/ampgrantprogram.
