City Of Tucson : Barrio HCD February

Government and Politics

February 2, 2023

From: City Of Tucson

Black History Month is nationally observed as a month of remembrance and celebration of the achievements of Black Americans throughout history.

Housing and Community Development recognizes there is still work to be done to create equity in homeownership. The long-lasting negative impacts of redlining, restrictive covenants, housing discrimination, and segregation are still visible in our community and the United States. Racism in housing practices and unequal access to economic opportunity has created a disparate impact on homeownership, America’s biggest intergenerational tool to build wealth.

Equity in housing is just one piece in the larger strive for equality and justice that our Black neighbors face every day. We firmly stand by our mission to make Tucson a home for everyone.
