As part of the roadway completion celebration, the weekend of February 11-12 will be a Car-Free Weekend on the new Maclovio Barraza Parkway. You are invited to come out and bike, roll or walk on the new roadway. Join the Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM) and other local businesses and agencies on Sunday, February 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be a bike rodeo, parklet demonstration, mobile bike repair, and more. Parking will not be available on the roadway for this event.

In addition to the Car-Free Weekend, on Friday, February 17, City of Tucson Mayor Regina Romero, The Regional Transportation Authority, Vice Mayor Steve Kozachik, Council Member Lane Santa Cruz, and DTM invite you to commemorate the completion of this new roadway with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The Regional Transportation Authority, a political subdivision of the state and independently governed, has invested more than $1.4 billion in transportation projects and services to improve mobility, safety, economic vitality and quality of life in the region. The RTA collects a half-cent excise (sales) tax from its special taxing district within Pima County to fund its 20-year regional transportation plan. The plan and tax were approved by voters in May 2006. The Downtown Links Improvement Project is part of the RTA plan and is managed by the City of Tucson.
