UPDATE ON HAZARDOUS MATERIALS SPILL ON INTERSATE 10 - The Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) notified the Tucson community of a commercial truck tractor hauling a box trailer that rolled over on Interstate 10 eastbound, between Rita and Kolb roads, at approximately 2:43 p.m. yesterday, Feb. 14. The commercial vehicle was carrying nitric acid and the containers began leaking due to the rollover. A Unified Incident Command structure has been set up by AZDPS with partner agencies, including the Tucson Fire Department, Tucson Police Department, Pima County Emergency Management, Pima County Sheriff's Department, Pima County Health Department, and Arizona Poison and Drug Information Center. First responders and hazmat teams continue their work to mitigate the spill and expect to have that work finished later this evening. Interstate 10 is currently closed in both directions between Rita and Kolb roads. Motorists are asked to avoid the area. LATINO PROSPERITY TOUR KICKS OFF IN TUCSON (VIDEO) - Tucson Mayor Regina Romero met last week with Small Business Administration (SBA) Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman. COMMENT ON COMPREHENSIVE OPERATIONAL ANALYSIS FOR PUBLIC TRANSIT - The City of Tucson, in partnership with the Pima Association of Governments (PAG), is evaluating all aspects of Sun Tran, Sun Link, Sun Express, and Sun Shuttle services throughout the Tucson metro area to determine potential improvements to create a more equitable, effective, and efficient transit network. This analysis is called a Comprehensive Operational Analysis, or COA. The City and PAG are requesting public input on these systems to ensure the future transit network better responds to community needs. APPLY TO BECOME A COMMUNITY SERVICE OFFICER - The hiring process is now open to staff the next batch of community service officers (CSOs) for the Tucson Police Department. Applications will be accepted until Monday, March 20, at 5 p.m. CSOs are a vital part of Tucson's public safety team. They help police officers in investigating traffic collisions, non-violent thefts, and other crimes where a suspect isn't present. The starting pay is $21 an hour. This hiring process is for the CSO academy that starts in July.
