City of Tucson departments work every day to serve the citizens of Tucson. Today, we take a look at some of the many statistics of the work performed during the 2022 calendar year. We hope you enjoy this "By the Numbers" special edition of NewsNet.

TUCSON WATER:
-Installed approximately 20,000 linear feet of transmission mains and drilled 4 production wells to keep Tucson's water flowing safely and securely
-Prepared for Tucson's water future by upgrading 27 million gallons of groundwater storage
-Provided 4,128 customers with rebates on water-saving appliances
-Conserved 30.7 million gallons through the replacement of appliances using customer rebates

TUCSON PARKS AND RECREATION:
-3 park master plans approved by Mayor and Council
-2 new splash pads
-9 new playgrounds with shade
-120 trees planted
-32,927 Ready, Set, Rec! participants
-1,027 SeeClickFix requests submitted
-45,497 park maintenance tasks completed
-8,868 public input surveys taken
-35 public meetings held
-741 recreation classes hosted, 7,499 participants
-927 KIDCO participants
-49,552 senior meals served

TUCSON FIRE DEPARTMENT (TFD):
-101,963 total emergency dispatches

-Average Total Response Time

 EMS: 7.51 minutes
-317 fire investigations performed
-116 car seat checks performed
-65 car seats distributed
-208 community home safety visits (smoke alarm installations)
-40 virtual safety presentations
-474 Tucson Collaborative Community Care (TC-3) referrals. TC-3 clients generated more than 3,200 calls to 911; TC-3 has an average call reduction of approximately 80% after engagement

TUCSON POLICE DEPARTMENT (TPD):
-264,834 department calls for service (includes 145,661 officer-initiated activities, 30,000 traffic contacts)
-86.8% of homicide investigations solved
-More than 200 community events hosted and attended
-Sworn member attrition reduced to 1%, and total staffing increased 5%
-280 individuals who possessed small amounts of drugs or drug paraphernalia were deflected into treatment rather than arrested
-2,900 individuals who possessed small amounts of drugs or drug paraphernalia were arrested rather than deflected
-Officers made an arrest in 91% of the incidents where deflection was an option
-Lifesaving naloxone (Narcan) for drug overdose situations was administered to 372 individuals
-Patrol staff used Individual First-Aid Kits (IFAKs) more than 75 times
-74.7% of community members who responded to a survey were satisfied with TPD's response time
-82.6% of community members who responded to a survey were satisfied with the service provided by TPD

DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AND MOBILITY (DTM):
-28,808 sandbags distributed
-18,014 miles of roadways swept
-76,386 potholes filled
-966 street lighting repairs
-6,403 safety-related parking citations
-5,400 bike lane miles added
-About 300 real estate transactions processed for DTM and other City departments
-1,072 sign installations
-737 miles of roadway line striping
-36 speed hump/speed tables installed
-13,696 service requests to Customer Service representatives

TRANSIT SERVICES DIVISION:
-12,608,810 Sun Tran bus riders
-1,384,919 (highest number of riders ever recorded) Sun Link streetcar riders

HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT (HCD):
-$418,050 in down payment assistance provided to 20 low-income homebuyers
-226 new, affordable rental housing units constructed and opened with City of Tucson funds
-13,832 individuals assisted with rent through Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8)
-97% overall occupancy rate in public housing
-449 people received emergency shelter at City of Tucson-managed shelters
-117 people exited emergency shelter at City of Tucson-managed shelters to permanent housing destinations
-1,432 people experiencing homelessness received outreach services
-1,492 people received housing navigation services
-$11 million in grant awards made to local nonprofit organizations for community services
-6,000+ interactions between Tucson House residents and on-site health and wellness providers 

ENVIRONMENTAL & GENERAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT (EGSD):
-23,766 graffiti spots cleaned
-734,576 tons of trash received at the Los Reales Sustainability Campus (landfill)
-777 tons of compost generated
-435,402 lbs of Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collected with 87% recycled or reused
-More than 25,000 tons of recyclables collected and processed
-13 new solar sites with a total installation size of 2.7 megawatts (MW). EPA estimates this would supply enough energy for more than 250 homes every year
-6,587 cases generated for Code Enforcement inspection
-11,978 site inspections conducted for Code Enforcement, averaging 998 per inspector
-More than 300 monitoring points sampled to ensure water and air quality, providing roughly 32,250 results
-$71,772 in Brownfields assessment grant funding spent on eight projects
-EGSD groundwater treatment systems cleaned and reinjected 487,548,529 gallons of groundwater around inactive landfills (Silverbell Groundwater Extraction Treatment System: 453,707,271 gallons; Los Reales Sustainability Campus Pump & Treat System: 37,385,092 gallons)
-225,022 tons of trash collected in Tucson and properly disposed of in the landfill at the Los Reales Sustainability Campus
-More than $7.8 million spent to upgrade and renovate City of Tucson facilities
-862 homeless camp cleanups
- 12,065 illegal dump sites cleaned

PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT SERVICES DEPARTMENT (PDSD):
-Issued Permits - 7,987 from Permits Plus (1/1/22 to 10/30/22) and 1,324 from TDC Online (10/31/22 to 12/22/22)
-680 from Permits Plus (1/1/22 to 10/30/22) and 109 from TDC Online (10/31/22 to 12/22/22) issued for new single-family residential permits
-75 from Permits Plus (1/1/22 to 10/30/22) and 11 from TDC Online (10/31/22 to 12/22/22) issued for new commercial building permits
-$603.7 million from Permits Plus (1/1/22 to 10/30/22) and $149.6 million from TDC Online (10/31/22 to 12/22/22) issued for construction valuation of permits
-74 from Permits Plus (1/1/22 to 10/30/22) issued for historic reviews and 6 from TDC Online (10/31/22 to 12/22/22)
- 10 from Permits Plus (1/1/22 to 10/30/22) issued for rezonings and 6 from TDC Online (10/31/22 to 12/22/22)

OFFICE OF ECONOMIC INITIATIVES:
-$1.3 billion total capital investment resulting from 5 incentive projects
-1,772 quality jobs created as a result of incentive projects
-244 acres annexed into the City for future industrial development
-400+ engagements through the Small Business Assistance Line-100+ visits to existing businesses
-200+ hours of assistance to business owners and entrepreneurs
-1,000+ hours of training by small business owners

BUSINESS SERVICES DEPARTMENT (BSD):

BSD - RISK MANAGEMENT:
-2,243 public liability incident/accident investigations
-$422,516.33 subrogation dollars collected (includes $74,909.32 collected from previous fiscal year) Note: Due to the pandemic, collections slowed as restitution cases were on hold via court mandates
-3,950 employees virtually attended OSHA required trainings
-162 facility inspections
-468 employee injury incident/accident investigations
- 3 departments aggressively completing Phase One of the Target Zero, Get Home Safe program initiatives (City of Tucson’s Safety and Health Management System) encompassing several employee engagement opportunities, kickoff celebrations, and recognition

BSD - TAXPAYER ASSISTANCE:
-14,565 phone calls answered
-4,406 in-person license customers assisted
-$308,175 investigation dollars collected
-30,959 business licenses issued

CITY CLERK:
-340 notices for public meetings posted
-286,200 ballots mailed for the May 17, 2022, Special Election
-235 liquor license applications processed
-850 public records requests received
-894 claims processed
-79 ordinances passed by Mayor and Council
-129 resolutions passed by Mayor and Council
-800+ agenda items processed for consideration by Mayor and Council
