Free Vaccines And More Tomorrow Downtown - People in the downtown area can get free flu shots, COVID-19 boosters, and other health services tomorrow, Dec. 6, at the Pima County Historic Courthouse (Turquoise Conference Room), 115 N. Church Ave., from noon-4 p.m. The event is part of the Pima County Health Department’s “Tardeada de Salud” series of pop-up events aimed at increasing access to vaccines and preventive services, such as blood pressure and blood sugar screenings. COVID-19 cases in Pima County rose sharply over the past couple of weeks, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that all people over the age of 5 receive a bivalent (targets two different variants of a virus) booster if it has been at least two months since their last COVID-19 shot. The new COVID-19 boosters target both the original COVID-19 virus and its newer, more contagious omicron variants. Bivalent boosters from both Pfizer and Moderna will be available at the event. The CDC also recommends people 6 months of age and older get a flu vaccine each year.

Narcan Training This Week To Help With Opioid Overdoses - Pima Community College, The City of Tucson's Community Safety, Health & Wellness Program, Pima County Health Department, and Thrive in the 05 neighborhoods will host a training on how to identify and respond to opioid overdoses. In this one-hour presentation, participants will learn how to administer the intranasal spray version of Narcan (naloxone) when a person has a suspected overdose from opioids. Upon completion, Narcan kits will be provided for participants to carry for lifesaving emergencies. The training session is Wednesday, Dec. 7, from 5:30-6:30 p.m., at Pima Community College Downtown Campus (Amethyst Room), 1255 N. Stone Ave. Register at the link below.

Winter Sock Drive Underway - As part of the City of Tucson's Homeless Protocol initiative, the Community Safety, Health & Wellness (CSHW) program recently increased outreach to unsheltered individuals. The weather is only going to get colder and the number one request from the campers encountered is socks. The CSHW program is reaching out to the community for donations during its Winter Sock Drive, now through Jan. 30. CSHW is hoping to collect unused socks in all sizes. Tucson Parks And Recreation Hiring Aquatics Program Manager - The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation department is seeking a dedicated, team-oriented aquatics program manager to lead the aquatics team in the operation of 20 pool locations and six splash pads. The ideal candidate will offer the balance of technical job knowledge, the ability to share with their staff a passion for the aquatics industry, and help build a robust aquatics recreation program.
