Rye Free Reading Room Hosts ‘The Wisdom Gallery’ — A Powerful Tribute to Rye’s Older Residents, Sponsored by The Osborn
A moving tribute to the vibrancy, wisdom, and contributions of older adults took center stage May 7 at the Rye Free Reading Room with the premiere of “The Wisdom Gallery”—a powerful new art exhibit presented in celebration of Older Americans Month.
Sponsored by The Osborn, “The Wisdom Gallery” features vivid photographic portraits and personal reflections from older residents who have greatly contributed to our local communities through their personal, professional and volunteer efforts. Each portrait is accompanied by words of wisdom from these remarkable individuals.
The elegant evening reception drew a spirited crowd, including featured residents and their families, elected officials, local dignitaries, and members of The Osborn staff, and set the stage for a month-long celebration of inspiration and intergenerational connection.
“This exhibit isn’t just for today—it’s meant to spark dialogue across generations,” said Matthew Anderson, President and CEO of The Osborn, the premier not-for-profit life plan community in Rye. “What we see here tonight are lives defined by expansion: of knowledge, of creativity, of community. Our older neighbors have helped build the world we live in. The Wisdom Gallery is more than portraits—it’s a celebration of wisdom, courage, and accomplishment.”
Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins joined the celebration, and said: “This powerful exhibit brings to life the stories of older adults whose achievements have shaped our community and influenced our lives — from the arts and sciences to journalism, education, public service and beyond. We are fortunate to have such remarkable neighbors, and we can all benefit from their insight and rich life experiences. Westchester County is proud to work hand in hand with our communities, to honor, empower and meet the evolving needs of our older residents.”
“The Wisdom Gallery” will be on display at the Rye Free Reading Room, 1061 Boston Post Road, Rye, through the end of May. Visitors may explore the exhibit in person and access the online gallery—which includes extended Q&As with the featured residents.
