From: Cultural Alliance Of Fairfield County

Since 2008, the Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County (CAFC) has established itself as a thought leader in the realms of art and culture. At the heart of the CAFC's mission is a deep commitment to the intersectionality of art and its potential as a catalyst for social benefit, sustaining local economies, fostering positive emotional wellbeing, and strengthening education.

We understand that art’s value extends beyond its creation and delve into how different audiences interact with and appreciate art. Whether it is the joy of a collector discovering a new piece, a donor supporting the preservation of cultural heritage, or a patron experiencing a transformative performance, CAFC emphasizes the diverse ways in which art enriches lives.

For the residents of Fairfield County and across the globe, art transcends aesthetic value, serving as a powerful medium for human progress, both personal and collective. Whether through public art installations, educational programs, or collaborative projects, we can foster a deeper connection between the arts and their audience and ensure that art remains accessible and meaningful to all.

From an editorial perspective, the 4-part question we will continuously ask as we present our collective ideas is:

How do we make art in all of its forms:
belong to everyone?
nurture a compelling experience?
perform as an integral resource?
present as a welcoming path?

Join us each quarter as we bring the voices of our community together to investigate these questions and more! To read our first editorial installment, click here.

LEADERSHIP AND LEGACY

With deep sadness, we share the passing of David Green, former Executive Director of the Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County. David was a passionate advocate for the arts and a steadfast champion for our creative community. His leadership and vision strengthened the cultural landscape of our region. David's leadership as an arts and culture advocate and arts administrator reached artists, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and cultural institutions.

David joined the Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County (CAFC) in 2013 as Director of Programs, creating and sustaining programs for over 600 member cultural organizations, artists, and businesses, including providing networking, marketing, advocacy, and professional development opportunities. From 2017 to 2023, he organized and hosted over 80 live radio interview shows on WPKN, providing voice and exposure to artists and cultural organization leaders across the county.

Soon after David was appointed Executive Director of CAFC in January 2020, the world shut down with the onset of COVID-19, and David pivoted organizational activities to galvanize and strengthen the regional cultural community as everyone struggled with looming financial crises, emergency funding options, the immediate need for virtual programming, understanding re-opening restrictions, and more. In September 2023, David retired but continued to nurture local and state-wide arts programming and advocacy.

David's impact extended far beyond his tenure-his dedication, kindness, and unwavering belief in the power of the arts continue to inspire all who had the privilege of working alongside him. As an organization and creative community, we will not forget David's contributions to CAFC and the broader Fairfield County arts scene.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to David Green's family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. His obituary can be found here.
