Delray Beach Director Of Communications Joins Florida Municipal Communicators Association Board Of Directors

The Florida Municipal Communicators Association (FMCA), an affiliate of The Florida League of Cities (FLC), has appointed Delray Beach’s Director of Communication, Gina Carter, as a member of their Board of Directors. Dir. Carter will join the board in February 2023 and serve a two-year term helping FMCA uphold their mission to provide its members with resources, support, and representation.

Dir. Carter has spent more than 20 years in public service. She joined the City of Delray Beach in 2019 as a public information manager and was soon after promoted to Director of Comminutions. Before coming to the City of Delray Beach she worked as a public information officer at the Broward Sheriff’s Office. She received an MFA and BFA from The School of the Art institute of Chicago and worked in design and website development before beginning her career in public service.

“The Florida Municipal Communicators Association has made a great choice in asking Dir. Carter to join their board. In three years, she has transformed her position and created a full-service communications department for our city. She is an innovative communicator with many years of experience in the public sphere to draw from,” Mayor Shelly Petrolia said.

The FLC was established in 1929 and serves as an advocacy organization for 410 member cities in the state of Florida. The league provides support and resources to help cities effectively address the challenges they face, and advocates for policies that support the well-being of Florida’s cities and their residents.

The organization represents cities’ interests in the state legislature and promotes policies that support local control and benefit cities and their residents. They also provide legal advice and support to cities on a wide range of issues, including land use, employment law, and procurement. The league also offers training and educational programs to help cities address a wide range of challenges and improve their operations and facilitates communication between cities, helping cities learn from each other and sharing best practices.

The FLC has several additional affiliated organizations that work in partnership with the league including the Florida Association of Code Enforcement, Florida City and County Management Association Florida City Clerks Association, Florida Police Chiefs, and the Florida Municipal Attorneys Association.
