Black History Trivia Challenge

Stop by our table at the Black History Youth Awareness Art Festival (BHYAAF) any time between 4:00 - 5:00 PM to challenge yourself with Black History trivia.

Use books or your mobile devices to learn answers to any unfamiliar questions and claim the title of Black History Trivia Challenge Champ and a free book prize to boot!  

Location: Spady Cultural Heritage Museum, 170 NW 5th Avenue.

Triple P is one of the most effective evidence-based parenting programs in the world, backed up by more than 35 years of ongoing research. Triple P gives parents with children ages birth - 12 simple, practical, judgement-free strategies to help them build strong, healthy relationships, confidently manage their children’s behavior, and prevent problems developing.   Register for both of these FREE sessions HERE! Triple P is a program funded by the Children’s Services Council of Palm Beach County.

English for Families

Meets Tuesdays and Thursdays,
Feb. 21 thru March 30*
@ 5:30 - 7PM (Dinner provided) 

(*No class March 21 & 23 - Spring Break) 

Ages 10 to 12 years
plus an adult family member or friend 

English for Families is a series of interactive classes for kids and their parents that focuses on developing English vocabulary and literacy skills through strategic and fun story reading and activities.  Designed specifically for individuals whose native language is not English (ESOL), the goal is to develop the literacy skills of the whole family. With the help of an English teacher, the path is created for success at work and school. 

Every student/family will receive a free Oxford Picture Dictionary along with some other giveaways. The program meets twice a week for five weeks for a total of 10 sessions. Dinner provided. Space is limited. 

FREE; registration is required by February 15.

This program is a partnership between the Florida Humanities and Delray Beach Public Library.  Funding for this program was provided by Florida Humanities and sponsored in part by the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Arts and Culture, and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture.

The National League of American Pen Women, Boca Raton Chapter presents a free workshop for writers everywhere.

Four award-winning local authors will speak about their backgrounds and writing experience. They will present their books and will discuss their inspiration and the journey from story conception to publication. The authors will also discuss key writing topics including research, plot, dialogue, setting, characters, genre, publicity, critique groups, and more. Followed by Q & A and discussion. Presenters: Elaine Bossik, Dayle Herstik, Marleen Pasch, and Carol White. Please bring a pen and notebook. Free; please register.

Applicants will have a 45-minute private session by appointment only at the Library starting at 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Applicants must obtain a free Delray Beach Public Library card to use this service and are asked to bring a printed copy of their most recent resume or work history. Attendees are also asked to arrive 15 minutes before their appointment to complete an important questionnaire.

Important: Appointments must be selected before the library closes by 8pm on the Monday prior to the appointment scheduled. Late reservations/arrivals will not be admitted and will have to be rescheduled. Walk-ins will not be admitted.

Reading Behind the Words: Understanding the Short Story

Back by popular demand! Winston Aarons returns to the Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI) to offer his short story course. The basic elements of a short story are setting, character, plot, conflict, and theme. Recognizing how each of these elements affects a story helps the reader understand the structure and meaning of a short story. Participants will read selected short stories and through the close analysis of each work, acquire the skills needed to understand and interpret not only the short story but longer works of fiction.
