Welcome to our monthly library newsletter. Each month we will share our upcoming programs, library happenings, and featured new items!

Winter 2024 Tiny Art Show
Tuesday, January 2nd

In February we will be displaying tiny artwork, and all are welcome to contribute.

Starting Tuesday, January 2nd, come pick up a kit, which includes a 4" x 4" canvas, 6 paint colors, and a paintbrush. Use these materials (plus any others you might have at home) to create your own tiny masterpiece. The theme for this winter's art display is Cape Cod Winter Wonderland. Supplies are limited.

Please bring your tiny artwork to the library by Friday, January 26th, 2024. Label the back of your artwork with your full name, age (if under 18), and an email address or phone number. The Tiny Art Show will be on display in the library during February 2024. Artwork will be available to pick up in early March 2024.

Irish Movie Marathon
Friday, January 12th at 2:00 p.m.
Mary Ann Eaton, Instructor of Irish Literature, will host her popular Irish Movie Marathon series on Friday afternoons in January and February. Join us each week for a screening of an Irish film and a brief cultural discussion. No registration is required.

Happy Hoops Floral Heart Embroidery Workshop

Saturday, January 13th at 10:30 a.m.

The Dennis Public Library is excited to announce that Happy Hoops will host a Valentine’s Day themed floral heart embroidery workshop. Adults and teens will learn and practice simple embroidery techniques while creating their own floral heart that can be enjoyed before and after Valentine’s Day.

Love historical fiction? Interested in learning about one of the most prolific, but unknown, female serial killers in American history?

Join us for a book talk hosted by local author Joseph Theroux for a discussion of his latest novel American Voodoo. Set in 1920s Louisiana, the novel follows novelist Lloyd Osbourne and a young William Faulkner as they pursue serial killer Clementine Barnabet in the city of New Orleans and across the bayou towns of Louisiana.

English for Speakers of Other Languages

The library is holding informal sessions to learn conversational English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL):

Buy a Brick, Support the Library

The Friends of the Dennis Public Library offer engraved bricks for sale to honor family, friends, special occasions, or businesses. Bricks will be placed in the library’s walkway. Each brick costs $125. Proceeds from the project are used to support library programs and purchase equipment. Order forms are available at the library and on the library’s website: dennispubliclibrary.org.

January Art Show
Yarmouth Art Guild
During the month of January our meeting room art display will feature works by artists from the Yarmouth Art Guild. The Yarmouth Art Guild represents hundreds of artists from the mid-Cape area. Come and enjoy the colorful show!
Pieces are $25 each and available to purchase for your collection.

Call for Artists for 2023

The Dennis Public Library wants to show you off!

The Dennis Public Library is seeking new artists to display their “two-dimensional” work in the library’s busy meeting room. The library also has a large display case in the main lobby suitable for showcasing three-dimensional work.These spaces are available together or separately. Show periods run for one calendar month and artists are welcome to hold an opening. If you are, or know of, an artist who has not shown at the library since our post-Covid reopening, please consider displaying at the library.

The library is located at 5 Hall Street in Dennis Port.
