Democrat,
This week, the New Jersey State Democratic Committee elected its members to represent our state within the Democratic National Committee (DNC). Congratulations to Laura Matos, John Graham, Marcia Marley, Bernadette McPhearson, and Modia Butler on their elections as DNC members representing New Jersey!
DNC members play a critical role in shaping the direction of the Democratic Party. They are tasked with voting on party policies and priorities, serving on key committees and caucus leadership roles, and electing the officers of the DNC. These responsibilities ensure that the voices of New Jersey Democrats are heard at the highest levels of our party.
We are confident that this newly elected group will represent New Jersey with integrity and dedication, helping to advance the values and priorities of New Jersey Democrats on the national stage.
This week, Andy Kim was officially sworn in as New Jersey’s junior senator by Vice President Kamala Harris. This event marks a historic moment as Senator Kim is now the first Korean American member of the U.S., and New Jersey’s first Asian American Senator. Senator Kim’s swearing-in also highlights his impressive journey from a national security expert and House Representative to a leader in the Senate, ready to fight for all New Jerseyans. We would like to congratulate Senator Kim on this momentous step forward for himself and for our state.
We also extend our gratitude to Senator George Helmy for his service as the interim Senator, ensuring a smooth transition and steadfast representation for our state during this time.
Governor Murphy signed the Freedom to Read Act into law, reinforcing New Jersey’s stance against arbitrary book bans and protecting access to diverse and age-appropriate learning materials in schools and public libraries. This landmark legislation ensures local communities retain the right to curate library collections based on their unique needs while safeguarding intellectual freedom. With support from educational leaders and advocates, this act represents a significant step forward in empowering students and defending the integrity of our libraries.
“The Freedom to Read Act cements New Jersey’s on the forefront of preventing book bans and protecting the intellectual freedom of our educators and students. Across the nation, we have seen attempts to suppress and censor the stories and experiences of others.” said Governor Phil Murphy.
President Biden’s Administration is leading a historic transformation of federal operations to combat climate change and bolster economic growth. Through Executive Order 14057, the administration has cut greenhouse gas emissions from federal operations by 38% since 2008, with a goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050. Key achievements include transitioning to electric vehicles, modernizing federal buildings for energy efficiency, and procuring clean electricity, with investments exceeding $12 billion.
