Schedule:

Calling all band directors! Each year we invite band directors to nominate high school band students to attend the Dorian Band Festival. Approximately 500 students are typically accepted to participate in the festival where students are placed in one of four bands: Festival Mass Band, NEW Smaller Festival Mass Band, the select Festival Symphonic Band, as well as the select Festival Jazz Band.

12:00-2:00 Registration: Only directors or parent chaperones go through the registration line. Festival fees will be turned in at this time. Pre-purchased meal tickets can be picked up at this time, as well as overnight housing information. Luggage goes upstairs. (Lobby, Center for Faith and Life)

12:00-2:00 Sunday Night Outstanding Soloist Auditions with Luther Faculty: Students who have signed up to be a Sunday evening outstanding soloist will go to their instrumental studio in Jenson-Noble and audition for our faculty. (Sites in Jenson-Noble Hall of Music)

2:15-5:00 Massed Band Rehearsals
? The Smaller Mass Band will be held under the direction of Dr. Justin Swearinger. (Main Hall, Center for Faith and Life: CFL)
? The Mass Band will be held under the direction of Dr. Jonathan Poquette. (North Gym, Regents Center)

2:15-3:15 Symphonic Band Chair Placement Auditions (Sites in Jenson-Noble Hall of Music)

2:30-3:30 Directors Social: Come and join other directors for some coffee and treats! (Lobby, CFL)

3:15-5:30 Symphonic Band Rehearsal: Held under the direction of Dr. Cory Near. Announcement of Concert Soloists made at the beginning of rehearsal. (Sperati Room, Jenson-Noble Hall of Music)

3:30-5:30 Lessons: Please be at your lesson location a few minutes ahead of your lesson time. Be sure to check the lesson schedule to know your lesson time. (Jenson-Noble Hall of Music)

5:00-7:00 Dinner: Student Union Cafeteria ($12.00). Off-campus options are available as well.

6:15-6:45 Sunday Evening Outstanding Soloists Rehearsal with Accompanist (CFL Recital Hall, CFL)

7:00-9:00 Concert: Featuring the Outstanding Dorian soloists, the Luther College Jazz Orchestra, and the Luther College Concert Band. Free admission. (Main Hall, CFL)

9:00-10:45 Dorian Social: Dorian Students are invited to an evening of hot chocolate, snacks, games, music, and relaxing! Located on the top oor of the Union. (Peace Dining, Dahl Centennial Union)

11:00 Students must be in their on-campus housing sites and remain there overnight. Possession or use of alcoholic beverages, tobacco, illegal or controlled substances of any kind will result in immediate dismissal from the festival and removal from the Luther College campus.

11:00-1:15 Mass Band Final Rehearsal (Main Hall, CFL)

12:15-1:30 Lunch: For Symphonic Band and Smaller Mass Band. Off-campus options are available as well. (Student Union Cafeteria - $12 ).

1:30-3:00 Symphonic Band Rehearsal (Sperati Room, Jenson-Noble Hall of Music)

2:45-3:30 Smaller Mass Band Final Rehearsal (Main Hall, CFL)

2:45-3:30 Luther College Information Session: Hosted by the Admissions Team and featuring students from the Luther College Bands. This is an optional activity for all Dorian students participating in the Mass Band. (Recital Hall, CFL)

3:45-4:30 Symphonic Band Final Rehearsal: All students will be responsible for carrying their own music and stand to the Main Hall in the CFL. (Main Hall, CFL)

5:00 Dorian Band Festival Grand Concert: Free admission. (Main Hall, CFL)
? Symphonic Band: Start on stage, sit stage left
? Smaller Mass Band: Sit stage right
? Mass Band: Sit stage left
