DPG Statement on Biden Farewell Address

Government and Politics

January 16, 2025

On the occasion of President Joe Biden’s last national address from the White House, Democratic Party of Georgia Chair Congresswoman Nikema Williams issued the following statement:

As we look back on the last four years, we thank President Joe Biden for restoring America’s standing on the world stage and the progress we’ve made as a country under his principled leadership. Four years ago, President Biden inherited a country reeling from a raging pandemic, rampant unemployment, runaway inflation, complete inaction on gun violence, and dwindling faith in our democratic institutions. Thanks to President Biden, we have weathered those storms; by every measure, our country is safer, stronger, and more prosperous than the day he took office.

In President Biden’s economy, Georgia has the lowest unemployment in over 50 years with more than 493,000 jobs created. Our state saw 1.1 million applications to start new businesses and $42.3 billion in private-sector investments in manufacturing and clean energy. A cumulative $6.5 billion in student loan debt was canceled, easing the financial burden on nearly 105,000 Georgians who can now use that money to buy homes and start families.

Under President Biden, we’re healthier, too: More Americans have health insurance today than at any point in our history, including 1.3 million Georgians with ACA Marketplace plans made affordable by Biden administration policies. We’ve capped seniors’ out-of-pocket health care costs, ended price-gouging for insulin and other essential medicines, and starting next year, Medicare will start negotiating bulk discounts on prescription drugs to keep prices as low as possible for all Americans. 1.9 million seniors and other Medicare beneficiaries saw their out-of-pocket health care costs reduced — many by thousands of dollars per year - and they have President Biden to thank, as do we all. For your leadership, compassion, and for being a president for ALL Americans, thank you, Mr. President.
