DPG Statement on Burt Jones Entering Gov Race

Government and Politics

July 8, 2025

On July 8, 2025, in response to Burt Jones’ official entrance into the 2026 gubernatorial race, DPG Chair Charlie Bailey released the following statement:

“After thirteen years as a politician not doing a thing for the working people of Georgia, Burt Jones has a lot of nerve asking for a promotion to Governor. Under Jones’ failed leadership, Georgia has a top-ten ranking for rural hospital closures, a top-five ranking for uninsured rates, a bottom-half ranking for every metric that measures our kids’ educational opportunities, and a tax code that rewards billionaires, big corporations, and the latest lobbyist to buy him a steak and a bourbon.

“From abetting Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election to defending the Big Billionaire Bill that strips 750,000 Georgians of their health insurance, Burt Jones has proven that he has a whole lot to offer Donald Trump and absolutely nothing to offer the hardworking people of Georgia. One thing is clear: no matter which gubernatorial candidate between Jones, Chris Carr, and possibly Marjorie Taylor Greene wins what is sure to be a bruising primary, it’s Georgians who will lose if any of these extremists is elected.”
