Delivering vital prevention resources to teachers shaping Maryland’s next generation
Ocean City, Maryland — November 17, 2025
The Foundation for a Drug-Free World participated in the 2025 Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE) Maryland Convention on November 15, delivering updated drug-prevention resources to teachers, school staff, and future educators from across the state. The annual professional development event was held at the Ashore Resort & Beach Club in Ocean City, just steps from the Ocean City Beach and within close proximity to the iconic Ocean City Boardwalk and Assateague Island.
From 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Drug-Free World representatives met with attendees to provide briefings on the Truth About Drugs initiative, with a focus on the program’s comprehensive Educator’s Kit. Many teachers who had previously encountered the booklets were introduced for the first time to the full curriculum package and immediately signed up to receive it.
In total, 53 educators and students were reached during the convention. The booth distributed 752 drug-education booklets, 53 information portfolios, and received 35 new Educator’s Kit requests, expanding the reach of drug-prevention materials into classrooms throughout Maryland.
Throughout the day, exhibitors and attendees expressed enthusiasm for the newly updated booklets and the accessibility of the Educator’s Kit. Drug-Free World also reconnected with several organizations previously met at regional conventions, strengthening partnerships.
The Truth About Drugs materials are designed to equip educators with factual, easy-to-deliver lessons to help young people make informed decisions and lead drug-free lives. By participating in SHAPE Maryland’s annual convention, Drug-Free World continues its mission to provide effective prevention tools to the professionals who work directly with the state’s youth.
