DUBLIN, Ohio (March 30, 2023) – During the month of May, local artists are providing mini-exhibitions and free artmaking activities throughout Dublin. The project, a ‘takeover’ of Dublin Arts Council’s  ARTboxes, will be created by members of Dublin Area Art League, a group that supports local visual artists, from beginners to professionals. The artwork can be found in ARTboxes, located in six highly-trafficked areas of the community. Viewers are encouraged to view, take and leave art.

ARTboxes, which look like little libraries, can be found in Dublin year-round. They are maintained by a group of stewards, volunteers who replenish supplies and update projects seasonally. 

Participating artists  and Dublin locations include:

Bridge Park ARTbox, 6564 Riverside Dr., near Pins Mechanical/16-Bit Barcade,  activated by artist Linda Turvy. Her ARTbox features a “Small Works” theme and offers a sampling of her favorite art subjects, including bicycle-inspired art. A free fiber arts activity invites participation.  

Dublin Arts Council ARTbox, 7125 Riverside Dr., is activated by artist Lee Ann Lander, a visual artist, author and songwriter living in Galena, Ohio. Lander’s ARTbox represents “The Joy Gift Alliance” theme and challenges viewers to create an artwork of their choosing; leaving a completed work in the ARTbox for others to find. 

Dublin Community Recreation Center ARTbox, 5600 Post Rd., is activated by artist Neha Dadhich. Her work reflects the folk-art styles of Rajasthan, India, where she was born and raised. Her ARTbox takeover,  “Fractals in Nature,” offers nature paintings by the artist and an activity booklet to inspire outdoor discovery of repetitive-designed fractal patterns. 

Historic Downtown Dublin ARTbox, 13 S. High St., features artist Bev Goldie. Goldie has been a member of the Dublin Area Art League since 2004. Her ARTbox in Dublin’s Frog Park features examples of encaustic works and free guides with child-friendly encaustic activities, coloring pages, puzzles and sample projects to do at home.  

Kaltenbach Park ARTBox, 5985 Cara Rd., features artist Dana Grubbe, a central Ohio artist known for her contemporary abstracts. She works in oil and cold wax, acrylic, alcohol ink and encaustic. Alcohol ink artwork and a free coloring book are included in Grubbe’s ARTbox. Her theme is “Start with Line.”

Scioto Park ARTbox, 7377 Riverside Dr., will be activated by two artists. Kathy Gatto, a self-taught mixed-media artist, will harness her versatility to include pastel artworks in the ARTbox from May 1-15, accompanied by pastel artwork instructions, construction paper and chalk. Oil painter Lynda Guenther takes over the ARTbox from May 16-31. She is a member of the Central Ohio and Ohio Plein Air Societies and paints seasonally at different parks. Guenther’s plein air oil paintings will be featured, along with free art supplies.
