Duggan Tied Up In Knots on Elon Musk

Government and Politics

July 14, 2025

LANSING - Mike Duggan’s campaign is struggling today to answer whether he’d accept the support of Elon Musk.

Just a month ago, Duggan was cozying up to Musk, tweeting, “Now you’ve got my attention….[smiling emoji]” when Musk first floated the new party. Duggan also said earlier this year that Musk would be the first person he goes and visits if elected governor.

But this morning, Duggan’s campaign didn’t return requests for comment from NOTUS on if he’d accept support from Musk and dodged a question from Detroit Metro News today by saying, “We will discuss internally and get back to you when we can.”

Then, a few hours later, his campaign released a new statement to the Metro News that said “the injection of a third party would add to the chaos.”

That’s three different positions in just over a month – and Duggan still hasn’t answered the simple yes or no question.

“Mike Duggan is trying to have this both ways in what should be a simple yes or no answer on if he’d accept Elon Musk’s support?” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Derrick Honeyman. “It’s clear that Duggan’s campaign is already flailing and that he can’t be trusted.”
