From: Earth Day FestivalEarth Day Festival exhibitors include the Florida Trail Association, Archbold Research Station, Moccasin Lake Nature Park, Highlands County Audubon Society, Florida Forest Service, US Department of Agriculture, Florida Department of Health and Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and the IFAS Master Gardeners and IFAS 4-H programs. Visitors may obtain information on the Florida Wildlife Corridor and the Florida Trail, wildlife rehabilitation, gardening for birds and butterflies, wildfire prevention, water quality, permitting and compliance, citrus and insects, and what local government agencies and environmental organizations are doing to make a world of difference. A special 'Kids Corner' will feature scavenger hunts, a nature display of skulls, pelts, maps and murals. Live birds of prey at home in the Moccasin Lake Nature Park rehabilitation facility will be on display and include a bald eagle, peregrine falcon, kestrel, and a swallow-tailed kite. A birding hike and a Saturday Kids Discovery Nature Walk are scheduled. Speaker programs include the following: 1) History and evolution of the Florida Trail, a designated 'National Scenic Trail,' which connects Floridians and visitors to the natural, cultural, and historic landscapes of Florida, 2) Bald Eagles & Conservation in Central Florida with a focus on the wildlife rehabilitation of eagles and the importance of conservation in Central Florida, and 3) The origins and shared history of Archbold Research Station and HHSP which reveal the efforts and support of key figures including Margaret Shippen Roebling, explorer Richard Archbold and others who were responsible for the preservation of the park's magnificent hammock and the Archbold scrub acreage. Refreshments and food will be provided by food vendors including Uno Dogs hot dogs, Gio Frio Italian ices, and the Hammock Inn concession.

Fees:
The Earth Day Festival is free. Park entry fees of $6 per vehicle (up to 8 occupants), $4 per single occupant vehicle and $2 for bicyclists and pedestrians apply.
