From: Erie Playhouse2024 Season of Blockbuster
Hello Friend,
My first Playhouse show was a Holiday show, THE WIZARD OF OZ in 1980. The one where Dorothy had to get home in time for Christmas. The first show I choreographed and costumed was also a Holiday show, 1983’s A CHRISTMAS CAROL. So not only was I bit by the Playhouse bug, but also the Holiday show bug. I always enjoy being in, directing or choreographing the December show.
There is just some special magic creating something to delight audiences for the holidays.
It also is an honor when people choose us to add some theatre cheer to their festive season. This season’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST has been a real joy to work on. The cast, crew, orchestra and production team have done their very best to bring all the elements of this production to life. And Erie audiences are clamoring for tickets, breaking box office records and nearing a sell out before the show even opened.
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST also brings a close to what has been one of the most successful seasons in recent Playhouse history. Laugh out loud comedies like TOOTSIE, our dazzling production of THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, the delightful Youtheatre’s DIARY OF A WIMPY KID and an unprecedented three shows, DISNEY’S NEWSIES, SWEENEY TODD and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST extending their run.
This season also saw the start of our “Playhouse For All!” program that makes theatre affordable for everyone. We are so grateful to Erie audiences for embracing our work and also our countless volunteers, onstage, backstage, in the pit, front of house and on our Board of Directors. We simply wouldn’t exist without the dedication of our volunteers.
Now we look forward to a new season. If you have visited us this year I hope that you will consider becoming a subscriber. We have season ticket packages to suit everyone. A season ticket is the best way to support the Playhouse and ensure that we can continue to bring affordable entertainment to our community.
Many of you are still wondering what our Holiday show will be in 2025. We are very close to getting the final approval from New York. All I can say is it’s a big one and I am sure you will want to secure your seats.
From all of us at the Playhouse, we wish you the merriest of holidays and we hope to see you at the Playhouse in 2025!
