VIRGINIA - Even on April Fools’ Day, Winsome Earle-Sears’ extreme record is no joke. From backing the ongoing attacks on Virginia jobs to supporting legislation that would defund Virginia’s public schools and rip away reproductive rights, Sears is out of step with Virginians. 

“Winsome Earle-Sears is a highly flawed candidate with a flailing campaign and an inability to unite the Republican party. While Virginians deserve a governor who fights for the Commonwealth, Sears is only focused on causing chaos, attacking Virginia jobs and workers, defunding public schools, and ripping away reproductive rights, ” said DPVA Spokesperson Maggie Amjad.

Winsome Earle-Sears has dismissed and laughed off attacks on Virginia jobs over and over again.

• Winsome Earle-Sears was caught on tapedismissing and laughing off the attacks on Virginia jobs saying “the media is making it out to be a huge, huge thing… and I don’t understand why.”
• Instead of standing up to attacks on Virginia jobs, Sears told Virginians facing layoffs “don’t fret.”
• Sears also said “just about everybody has lost a job … It is life happening.”

• She told the Associated Press that she backed Trump’s efforts and she doubled down.
• She also said Virginians facing layoffs will “be all right.”

• As Donald Trump attacked Virginia's workforce and economy, Sears declared she would help Trump “get the job done” if she were governor.  
• Sears has also said “I’m supporting what the President is doing.”
• The few resources Sears offered to help Virginians ended up being broken links that led to “404 Page Not Found” website errors.

Winsome Earle-Sears has an extreme record on contraception and reproductive rights.

• Sears “couldn’t resist” voting against this legislation to guarantee Virginia women’s access to contraception.
• Sears supports an extreme six week abortion ban similar to the law that took effect in Texas that bans abortion before most women know they are pregnant.
• Sears has said that she would support an abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest.
• January 2021: The Winchester Star reported that Sears said she wanted to make abortion illegal in all cases, unless the life of the mother was at risk.
• Sears vowed to “do everything in [her] power” to end abortion in Virginia.
• Sears’ 2021 lieutenant governor campaign website: “I will do everything in my power to stop this act from taking place in Virginia.”
• Sears attempted to scrub this abortion section from her website around September 2021.
• Sears has declared she is “standing shoulder to shoulder” with the far-right fight against IVF.

Winsome Earle-Sears has a long record of supporting legislation that would cut funding from Virginia’s public schools.

•  Sears has repeatedly tried to defund public education. 
•  She also supports using taxpayer dollars for private schools.
