Iowa’s Congressional Delegation is Silent as Iowa is Left in the Dust
DES MOINES, IA – More than $11 million in funding that the USDA contracted to Iowa farmers has expired, leaving farmers with unpaid bills and even more unpredictability as Iowa’s ag economy continues to worsen.
The Trump Administration put an end to the Local Food Purchasing Assistance and Local Food for Schools programs on top of cutting $11.3 million the federal government contracted to farmers to build the future of local food systems.
These programs provided funds to purchase produce and other food from farmers to give to local food pantries and schools in need.
“What a shock! Iowa Republicans are completely silent as Donald Trump once again refuses to support Iowa farmers,” said IDP Spokesperson Paige Godden. “They’re far more afraid of standing up to Trump than hurting their own constituents. What’s worse is that all of this is being done to pay for Trump’s tax cuts for the wealthy. Iowa farmers are losing money and Iowa children will go hungry so that some billionaire will be able to see one less zero on his taxes next year.”
