Flashback: Iowa Republicans Voted to Give Trump Unlimited Power on Tariffs

DES MOINES – The bad economic news just keeps on coming. As Iowans wait to see how much President Trump’s new tariff policy will drive up prices for consumers, our farmers, manufacturers, and business owners, our congressional delegation in Washington has thrown in the towel on playing any role in policy.

Marianette Miller-Meeks, Ashley Hinson, Zach Nunn, and Randy Feenstra all voted for a provision in March that will prevent any congressional review of Trump’s “emergency” tariff policies.

Trump’s minimum 10% across-the-board tariff announcement follows a slew of bad economic news for Iowa recently:

“It’s clear that Iowa’s representatives in Washington are either inept or too afraid to fight back – even when our economy is struggling,”  said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart. “I’m sure we’ll hear expressions of ‘concern,’ but actions speak louder than words and they voted to give away the farm to a president more focused on tariffs than lower prices. Iowans need independent voices that will do what’s best for Iowa and take us in a more sensible direction.”
