Florida Democratic Party Condemns Florida Republicans for Voting to Cut Medicaid and SNAP

Government and Politics

May 22, 2025

Tallahassee, FL - On May 22, 2025, the House narrowly passed a budget reconciliation bill that includes extreme cuts to Medicaid and SNAP funding, with yes votes from every member of Florida’s Republican Congressional Delegation. It now heads to the Senate.. It now heads to the Senate. In response, the Florida Democratic Party has issued the following statement:

“I don’t know how they plan to sleep at night,” said FDP Chair Nikki Fried. “The House’s budget reconciliation bill is like some twisted reverse Robin Hood - stealing from the poor and giving to the rich. If this budget moves forward, more children are going to starve. More people are going to die from preventable illnesses. More lives and families are going to be destroyed.

“It’s shameful what Republicans are doing, and even more shameful that every Florida Republican ignored what was best for Floridians and got in line with Donald Trump. For America’s sake, I hope the Senate can find the backbone that the House threw out with the trash.”
