The school topped the U.S. News and World Report’s 2023-2024 list for best public high school The internationally recognized publication ranks schools based on performance on state-required tests, graduation and how well they prepare students for college. The Early College at Guilford’s mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by providing exceptionally challenging educational opportunities that support academic development at the highest standards. Beginning in 11th grade, students take college courses with undergraduate students, while ninth and 10th grade students take honors and Advanced Placement courses.
“I am incredibly proud of the hardworking students and staff at The Early College at Guilford. This recognition is well deserved,” Superintendent Oakley said. “…and I am grateful for the partnership with Guilford College which supports our students’ success in the classroom and beyond.”
The Early College at Guilford also ranked ninth for best STEM High Schools in the nation as well as first in the list of Best High Schools in the state. “This is such an honor and it’s a true testament to this community,” principal Dr. Pete Kashubara, said. “My philosophy is that the teachers, students and parents are the heartbeat of the school. They continue to rally around and support our school and that’s how we’ve seen the success that we have.”
Guilford County Schools snagged three of the top ten rankings for the Best High Schools in North Carolina. In addition to The Early College at Guilford, STEM Early College at N.C. A&T ranked second, and Phillip J. Weaver Ed Center ranked sixth, also made the list.
