From: Montana Governor Greg GianforteBOZEMAN, MT – Governor Greg Gianforte on March 13th, recognized two Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks employees, James Washburn, and JD Douglas, with the Outstanding Service Award for their exceptional response to a fatal traffic accident near Townsend last month.
“A true public servant steps up in a time of need, and that’s exactly what these outstanding Montanans did,” Gov. Gianforte said. “Their quick thinking and selfless actions in the face of tragedy reflect the best of Montana and we’re grateful for their service and proud to recognize their extraordinary efforts.”
Washburn, a Block Management Technician in Region 3, was the first to arrive at the scene of the accident. Without hesitation, he assessed the situation and began administering medical care. His courage and composure in a traumatic situation exemplified his commitment to helping others, even under the most difficult circumstances.
Assistant Warden Chief Douglas arrived shortly after and worked alongside Washburn to manage the scene with professionalism and care. His leadership helped ensure that emergency personnel could do their jobs effectively while also providing crucial support in a tragic moment.
“For their bravery and service to their fellow Montanans, we are honored to present James Washburn and JD Douglas with the Outstanding Service Award. They represent the very best of public service,” Gov. Gianforte said.
Created by Governor Gianforte in 2021, the Outstanding Service Award honors Montana state employees who demonstrate exceptional dedication to public service and go above and beyond in their duties. State employees can nominate a colleague for the award here.
