From: Montana Governor Greg GianforteGovernor Gianforte Promotes Nonprofit Serving Montana Veterans on Third Day of Giving
HELENA, Mont. – To mark the third day of his 12 Days of Giving, Governor Greg Gianforte today highlighted the Veterans Navigation Network (VNN) in Billings for its work to serve Montana veterans.
“After heroically serving our country in uniform, our veterans deserve support as they transition to civilian life,” Governor Gianforte said. “On the third day of our 12 Days of Giving, I’m proud to highlight an outstanding nonprofit based in Billings that’s doing just that.”
Founded by former Army Ranger Blake Fuhriman in October 2019, VNN supports Montana veterans in their transition to civilian life by offering resource navigation, peer mentorship, and advocacy. Earlier this year, the governor presented Fuhriman with his Veteran Commendation.
Operating with the goal to meet the transition needs of every Montana veteran, VNN connects veterans and their families with resources for health care, behavioral health, employment, legal services, education, fitness, homeless and suicide prevention, and survivor benefits, as well as referrals for equine therapy and canine service animal training, assistance with VA disability compensation claims, and more.
The holiday season can be stressful for many individuals, especially veterans. According to VNN, visiting family, budget strain, crowds, and maintaining diet, exercise, and sleep routines can be challenging. The holidays can also mean feelings of sadness, loneliness, and loss. Even veterans with families and social support networks can feel isolated if none of the people around them are able to relate to their experiences.
Recognizing veterans are better served through a support system that includes someone who understands military culture, VNN is currently seeking peer mentoring candidates. To apply as a mentor, visit https://www.veteransnavigation.org/volunteer1. If you are a veteran in need of support, contact VNN by calling (406) 435-9308 or email [email protected].

-On the 1st Day of Giving, the governor visited the Butte Rescue Mission and served lunch to Montanans struggling with food insecurity.
-On the 2nd Day of Giving, the governor launched the second annual canned food drive among state agencies and encouraged Montanans to give to the Montana Food Bank Network or their local food bank.
-On the 3rd Day of Giving, the governor encouraged Montanans to support Montana veterans through the Veterans Navigation Network.
