Boston - Governor Maura Healey today appointed Adam Freudberg to serve as Executive Director of the Massachusetts Military Asset and Security Strategy Task Force and Governor’s Liaison to Military Installations. The Task Force is responsible for partnering with, supporting, and expanding the missions of the six military installations in Massachusetts. Freudberg most recently served as a senior official at one of the state’s installations, Hanscom Air Force Base, and previously served as Executive Director of the Task Force under former Governor Deval Patrick. John Beatty, the outgoing director, is stepping down after nearly a decade of leading the Task Force.

“We’re proud to appoint Adam Freudberg as Executive Director of the Massachusetts Military Asset and Security Strategy Task Force and my office’s liaison to military installations. He brings significant experience and knowledge of our military bases, which serve a critical role for our state and nation’s security and economy, as well as a deep commitment to public service,” said Governor Maura Healey. “We're grateful for John Beatty’s service as Executive Director of the Task Force over the last nine years. Under his leadership, we have made progress supporting the mission, personnel and economic advancement at our military bases, and we wish him every success in his next steps.”

“As co-chair of the Task Force, I look forward to working with Adam to advance the Task Force’s mission,” said Lieutenant Governor Driscoll. “Over the last year, I was able to visit all of Massachusetts’ military bases and learn more about their work firsthand. Continuing to support and partner with our installations and broader military community will provide enormous opportunities to advance our state’s progress in spaces like biotechnology and information systems and enable continued economic growth throughout the Commonwealth. We’re grateful for John Beatty’s work as executive director and are excited to welcome Adam to the role.”

“Massachusetts military communities, installation leaders, and partners can be proud of the Military Asset and Security Strategy Task Force’s work to create mutually beneficial and tangible improvements in support of national security. As someone who was there for the establishment and start-up of the Task Force, I am excited to now return and coordinate the next phase from the Governor’s Office thanks to the leadership from Governor Healey, Lieutenant Governor Driscoll, and the entire congressional delegation,” said Adam Freudberg. “I am excited to build on the Healey-Driscoll Administration’s recent initiatives, and to be present, responsive, and ready to partner with every military installation and the defense sector. John Beatty rightfully deserves a lot of praise for leading the critical focus on this work over many years, and I wish him the best moving forward.”

“It has been an honor to serve the Commonwealth as the executive director of the Massachusetts Military Asset Security Strategy Task Force. The support of our six military installations and other defense-related activities are important not just for our economy, but also for our nation,” said outgoing Director John Beatty. “The missions and defense work that happens here in Massachusetts directly affects every branch of our military worldwide. I am grateful to Governor Healey and Lieutenant Governor Driscoll for their steadfast support and look forward to many successes for our defense communities, military families and veterans.”

Last month, the Healey-Driscoll Administration hosted a convening of the Task Force in the State House, welcoming members of the congressional delegation, cabinet members, and industry leaders. At the meeting, Governor Healey elevated Lieutenant Governor Driscoll and the entire Massachusetts congressional delegation to serve as co-chairs for the first time.

The Massachusetts Military Assets and Security Strategy Task Force's mission is to partner with, support and expand military assets and installations within Massachusetts, including Barnes Air National Guard Base, Devens Reserve Forces Training Area Hanscom Air Force Base, Joint Base Cape Cod, Natick Soldier Systems Center, and Westover Air Reserve Base. The Task Force is housed within the Office of the Governor and supported by the Executive Office of Economic Development and MassDevelopment.
