Governor Katie Hobbs Issues Statement on Arizona's Invasive Abortion Reporting Law

Government and Politics

December 18, 2024

From: Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs

Phoenix, AZ - On December 18, 2024, the State of Arizona released its annual abortion report, as required by a law passed in 2010. In response, Governor Katie Hobbs is calling for a repeal of the abortion report law that requires government surveillance of pregnant women:

“This report is an attack on our freedom, is unacceptable, and must be brought to an end. The government has no place in surveilling Arizonans' medical decision-making or tracking their health history. Starting a family is a sensitive and personal experience for a woman and her loved ones; there should be no room for government surveillance and publication of that decision. The existence of a government registry of pregnancies grossly infringes on our right to privacy. In Arizona, we trust women and doctors, and I will continue to fight to make sure our laws reflect that fact.”
